What You Need To Know About Abortion In PA

Did you know that Pennsylvania has placed some restrictions on Abortion? 1

In Pennsylvania, the following restrictions on abortion were in effect as of April 1, 2017:

  • Women are provided a right to know also known as informed consent. 24 hours prior to an abortion, women seeking abortion are required to be given information about the gestation of her baby, the development of the preborn child, the physical dangers of abortion for her health, and alternatives available to her, including financial assistance if she bears the child. The mother is allowed under the law to refuse any or all of this information, but the law requires the abortion provider to make it available. The woman then must take 24 hours to reflect on her decision before the abortion process can begin.
  • The parent of a minor (under 18 years of age) must consent before an abortion is provided.
  • Abortion coverage is limited. Health plans offered in the state’s health exchange under the Affordable Care Act can only cover abortion if the person’s life is endangered, or in cases of rape or incest, unless individuals purchase an optional rider at an additional cost. Abortion is covered in insurance policies for public employees only in cases of life endangerment, rape or incest. Government funding is available for abortion only in cases of life endangerment, rape or incest.

An abortion may be performed at 24 or more weeks after the person’s last menstrual period only if the person’s life or health is endangered.

“The 3 ladies I met today are some of the most genuine, caring, nicest people I have ever met! I was so nervous and they really put my mind at ease and made me feel like I mattered! The ultrasound technician was amazing and really took her time with us. If you are pregnant and scared, do not hesitate to call. 5 stars!”

“Great experience! Staff was very kind and helpful. They gave me my first ultrasound, printed out several copies of pictures, provided me with the proof of pregnancy form that I needed, did std testing, and also supplied me with prenatal pills. My experience was wonderful and I would recommend them to anyone in need. Everything was astonishingly free and the services are of great quality.”
